Exotic Dancer, 19, Sues State Over Law Raising Age Requirement

  4. The teenager filed a lawsuit challenging the new law, which forbids anyone under 21 from working in the adult entertainment industry.
  5. Aimed at combating human trafficking, the law also forbids adult entertainment businesses from hiring under-21s as performers, cooks, DJs, waitstaff, and security guards.
  6. Governor Ron DeSantis signed the law in May to deter human trafficking, but plaintiffs argue it targets law-abiding businesses.
  7. “This legislation will help better protect the most vulnerable in our communities," the governor said last month.
  8. Serenity believes the law violates her constitutional right to free speech and won't actually help in preventing human trafficking.
  9. "This is more or so [sic] a political plot to get voters into the booths to vote for the candidates putting these laws in motion," she told the Daily Mail.
